Robowars Nationals 2016

As you know it’s that time of year again and we are busy preparing for the 2016 Australian Robowars Nationals. This years events will be the biggest Nationals to date with an awesome venue and more robots. The event will be held at the Big Boys Toys Expo in Canberra which had over 9000 members of the public attend in 2015.  We will also have prizes and sponsorship for competitors. (Read on)

Friday August 19th

• 1200 – 1700 – Arena Setup & equipment drop off, for those of you who have arrived early.

Saturday August 20th

•  1000 – 1300 – Registration: Builders must arrive prior to 10:00 to allow time for registration.
• 1330 – 1600 – Afternoon Fight Session
• 1800 – 2030 – Evening Fight Session
• 2030 – 2200 – Repair Time
• 2200 – Venue Closes

Sunday August 20th

• 1000 – 1300 – Repair Time.
• 1330 – 1600 – Afternoon Fight Session
• 1800 – 2030 – Evening Fight Session (Finals)
• 2030 – 2200 – Arena Packup
• 2200 – Venue Closes

Robot Registration: Builders DB

Featherweights
No definite decision has been made on the format at this stage. While we usually run a round robin competition this is getting harder due to increases in robot numbers (this is a good thing). With 16-24 robots we may move to a double elimination format.  Thisdecision will be made when we have clear numbers.

The basic schedule will be:

• Saturday Prelim / Qualifying Fights
• Sunday Finals – Semi Final will be start of evening session and final will be conclusion of evening session.

Sportsmans

We will  be continuing with Sportsmans as exhibition fights accruing points as part of the Sportsman Cup. See Sportsman Cup page for the current tally. Top four Sportsmans will automatically go through to the finals of the Sportsman Cup (to be held Nov/Dec).
Sportsman robots should expect 2-4 fights per day. If by the end of the second day your robot is still working you will be earning lots of points for just making it in the arena.

Sportsman

• Best Newcomers Award: 2 x BotBitz 85A ESCs (Sponsorted by BotBitz)

Competitors who are competing at their first nationals event are eligible for this award and will be judged by event staff/senior roboteers. Best showman will be judged by MC and event organisers.

Sponsorship:

For the first time ever we are able to provide support for competitors to come to the event. There are limited positions and these will be distributed around the various states (If you are international you are eligible for any of the states). This support will cover accommodation (twin share) in Canberra for the Saturday and Sunday night and a travel allowance towards making the journey. This will not cover the full cost but should help to get you here. The amounts will be based on location and it assumed those from Sydney and Melbourne will be driving to Canberra.

To be eligible you will bring at least 1 working robot, and these must be completed 1 week prior to the event. The support will be awarded based on your robot design and your experience and proven ability to put on a show at events. Should we have more applicants than available sponsorship’s, priority will go to people also bringing a sportsman robot.

To apply please register your robots on Builders DB and email steve@robowars.com.au with the subject [Event sponsorship]. Please describe the two robots, why you think they would put on a good show and the current state of construction. Again there are only a few of these so don’t be discouraged if you aren’t awarded one particularly the first time entrants. If you don’t get it this time but show up with exactly what you described then that sets a very good track record.

We are also working on a group discount for the chosen builders hotel and will get you details as soon as they are known.
